The Witcher 4 is coming but not with Geralt... her time has come
CD Projekt Red unveiled The Witcher 4 at The Game Awards 2024, officially announcing a new chapter in the beloved fantasy franchise that shifts the protagonist spotlight to Ciri, breaking from the series' previous Geralt-centered narrative.
The cinematic trailer, running nearly six minutes long, introduces players to a gripping storyline where Ciri takes on a witcher contract in a remote village plagued by a generations-old monster demanding human sacrifices. And , this has canonized the ending from The Witcher 3 – confirming that Ciri survived and became a full-fledged witcher, rather than dying or becoming the Empress of Nilfgaard.
Game director Sebastian Kalemba emphasized the studio's long-standing desire to make Ciri the main character, stating it "felt natural" and that they want to "explore what it means to truly become a witcher."
